This video seems to have disappeared. There is another version of this with a 50 second introduction here: www dot youtube dot com/watch?v=TpNWSW49IBM . But the version I’m uploading does not have the introduction. Until viewing You Tube I was not aware of Eric Burdon and The Animals, I had heard their songs, but didn’t know who sang them. It’s not a good idea for You Tube to remove these videos since they are a form of marketing and they make people aware of these artists. For example I just bought the 2 CD set “The Complete Animals [Extra Tracks] [Import]” from Amazon. They contain 41 tracks, the complete recordings made with Mickie Most as producer. Some of their future songs are not included since Mickie Most was not the producer at that time. Wouldn’t have bought these CDs had I not learned about Eric Burdon and The Animals from these You Tube videos.

i’ve been told that this song was so popular during that time and place, is that it was one of the songs banned on AFVN. Therefore it was often heard on Radio hanoi when they switched format from traditional vietnamese music to american rock and pop.
sick song!!
Classic song. Classic groove. Thanks for sharing this gem !
@wopcats true- but it was adopted by the roops as an anthem (their vietnam national anthem)
I don’t have anything against Viet Nam vets. I didn’t particularly like the war… but I had a lot of friends who served there and some who died there. I never said anything negative about any of the vets… only about someone “pretending” to be a vet. Most all of us can relate to this song in one way or another. Most of us have had some place we wanted to get out of. Mine was high school, yours was Viet Nam, for some it was the town they live in. This is one of my favorite songs from the 60’s.
@RobertJamesAlexander OK – let me make this simple for everyone… I concede that the song was very significant for those who served in Viet Nam.
he looks too young to have a voice like that
Its a Carole KING song FYI
@wopcats
This song was always being played on the jukeboxes when I was in the service from 1966-1968. We just wanted to get out of that place.
ok ok…….but this song pops in my head……when I think of my hubby…….he is an asshole……lol “he gotta get out this place” ..this is what I hummmmm
Not only was this song the troops anthem in Vietnam it was the 1st gulf war and is still played continually by the troops today in Afghanistan, who rightfully enough just wanna get out of that place .And your right theres gotta be a better life .
Tangerine Sequel
I could not agree more with your video upload comments as I too have found this video the same way you did and I’m gonna buy a CD set too!
What a voice!
@wopcats Now aint you thankfull that some of us did get out of that place called Vietnam so as to set the record straight Ha ah ah aha aha ha .Now You can go to and listen to Joe’s South old song ”walk a mile in my shoes.”
oh , i see , a hardman loudmouth behind a keyboard, i already said everybody might not agree, it’s all about opinions
EB had a great set of pipes.
@wopcats i maybe have not lived at the time the song was made..but im pretty shure i combine many others things with song than vietnam….and to be honest i dont even care about the true meaning of it…since this song apllies to many different situations…in witch it posesses at least the same meaning and truth…though it is interessting to hear what it actually was meant to say.And i agree completle on the second part about change…
@scottsoul64 Have you ever listen to any album from Beatles? This song is good, but Beatles are legends. Check their discography, you`ll enjoy it.
@scottsoul64 you disgrace humanity, sir.
Man – even listening to them now, Eric Burdon had one of the best rock voices of all time.
@scottsoul64 Spot on mate much much better than the beatles
This was 1 of the 2 songs that the US Military wouldn’t allow to be played on the AFVN radio network during the Vietnam War. The other song was Peter, Paul, and Mary’s “Leaving on a jet plane”.
If someone have the single ripped from the UK/US Original vinyl (I want both a- and b-side), please put it up on Mediafire as a rar-file and then post it here in the commentary field as response to this comment.
awesome song man
Eric rocks!!!!!!!
Never heard of them before??! WOW! Although they were before my time, i discovered them in my early teens. One of the greatest groups in rock history!
